The $2,000 Desert Writing Prize
The Waterston Desert Writing Prize
is currently open to applications for their 2017 writing prize. The winner will
receive $2,000 and a four week writing residency at Playa, in the Central
Oregon desert.
The prize seeks to honor “literary
nonfiction that illustrates artistic excellence, sensitivity to place, and
desert literacy – with the desert as both subject and setting. ”
According to their guidelines:
“Only literary or creative nonfiction
proposals will be considered. The Prize does not fund poetry or fiction proposals or
children’s literature.
Emerging, mid-career or established
writers in the field of literary nonfiction are encouraged to apply. The
Waterston Desert Writing Prize seeks writing that offers a unique voice, an
engaging style, literary sensibility, creativity and attention to detail that
combine to add fresh perspectives and a meaningful contribution to the body of
desert literature. All applications will be evaluated via a peer review
process. “
The deadline to enter is April 1st,
2017.
